An original 1950's drop dead gorgeous strapless gown in cascading layers of ivory chantilly lace and tulle. What a statement this would make at the upcoming prom season – any girl wearing this creation would definitely be the belle of the ball ! It is also lovely enough to be worn as a wedding dress – definitely worthy of a very special occasion. No maker’s label remains but this dress appears professionally made. No fabric contents label but this is likely a synthetic blend.

Note the details on this stunning gown – the (boned) satin bodice with lace overlay and ruched tulle at the bustline, piped satin waistband, cascading tiers of embroidered chantilly lace from bust to hemline, and of course the incredibly full twirling skirt. There are actually three layers to this skirt – an underlayer of ivory satin acetate, a middle single layer of ivory tulle to give the skirt extra body, topped with a layer of tiered lace backed by tulle. Note the dress can be worn strapless or with its ivory satin “barely there” spaghetti straps.

This dress closes down the rear with a hidden metal zipper and fastener. The entire dress is lined in a glorious ivory satin. Typically the use of such a heavy weight satin with a gorgeous sheen is indicative of a high end vintage gown. The dress is photographed using a crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included. However, given the voluminous skirt layers, this dress is quite full on its own.

No vintage size label, so please see measurements below for a proper fit. This is a small size that would likely best fit a modern size 2 or 4.

Bust – 33-34”
Waist – ideally 23-24” (possibly 25” with a tight squeeze)
Hips – full
Length – 44.5”
Torso length – 10.5” (to top of bodice)
Skirt length (waist to hem) - 34”

This dress is in excellent vintage condition. Both the lace and tulle still retain much of their original crispness. No stains and underarms are clean. Only two minor flaws to mention - two small repairs to the lower front skirt. One is to the underlying tulle and is partially hidden by the overlapping tier of lace, and the other is virtually invisible on the lace panel above. Both areas were professionally repaired using transparent filament thread.
