Reclaimed barn wood has been a cottage industry for years. But there's also wood that has been milled for years sitting in barns all across the country. Many of my bowls come from 50 or 60 year old pieces of wood and this is one of them.

This wooden bowl is carved from walnut and finished in organic tung oil and local natural beeswax. The piece is carved from a solid piece of walnut heartwood with some surface sapwood on one side. This creates a natural transition in the tone of the color which adds character and texture to the piece. All variations in color are natural to the wood, no dye or stain has been used.

This bowl can be a center piece on your coffee table or a handy serving dish at parties. It is sanded perfectly smooth and the wax finish adds to the lustre of the piece. The variations in color of the bowl are natural to the wood and make already rare dough bowl into a unique piece of art and utility.

My name is Joseph Marshall. Originally from Ireland, I moved to the United States 10 years ago and settled down in Columbia MO. My bowls have their own unique character drawn from their shape and the beauty of the wood. These shapes are generally inspired by the traditional dough bowls and trencher bowls common in kitchens of the 19 century.

All bowls are finished in 4-6 coats of organic natural tung oil and polished with a homemade tung oil/local bees wax polish. These bowls are safe for food use. In order to maintain the original finish and due to the knots and checks, recommended for dry foods only such as whole fruit, breads and nuts.

This item is 17.5 by 7.5" by 1.75" high No. 61
