=========================

The hamsa -- that is, the symbol of an eye embedded in the palm of an open hand -- has had numerous other names throughout the ages, including the hand of protection from the evil eye, the hand of God, the eye of God, the eye of Fatima, the hand of Fatima, and the hand of Miriam. The form is sometimes rendered naturally and other times symmetrically with a second thumb replacing the little finger. Although no one knows for sure how long they've been around, there are existing hamsa verified as dating back to the 12th century. The hamsa has been present in Judaism going all the way back to Biblical times, where it is referenced in Deuteronomy 5:15, stated in the Ten Commandments as the "strong hand" of God who led the Jews out of Egypt.

The hamsa has been variously interpreted by scholars as a Jewish, Christian, or Islamic amulet, and as a pagan fertility symbol. Even as the magical form remains shrouded in mystery and scholars debate nearly every aspect of its emergence, it is recognized today as a kabbalistic protection/luck amulet and is also regarded as an important symbol in Jewish art.

Hamsa frequently feature fish in addition to the eye. Other icons besides eyes and fish have also found their way into the hamsa, including the Star of David, prayers for the traveler, the Shema, the blessing over the house, the 12 tribes of Israel and the colors of red and blue, both of which are said to thwart the Evil Eye. Personalized family hamsa often feature birthstones and other iconery to represent members of a family and significant dates or events to the family unit. Modern hamsa may not openly feature the eye, they are nevertheless regarded as protective amulets shielding the possessor (or household) from evil and inviting good luck as well. Some people believe the hand should face upward, to catch the positive energy, while others believe it should point downwards so that the positive energy will run down the fingertips to disperse.

No matter which way your hamsa is oriented or how it is adorned, it's sure to provide you with a beautiful addition to your home!

The dragons in a heart shape symbolize so many emotions for me and the coloring is perfect. The black bag just brings out the colors in the dragons even more. The strings change color depending on how the light hits them. Being that I am the year of the dragon and the struggles I have with Love this bag will bring many happy memories as I look at it and inside it for the treasures it will hold!! Just beautiful!!

The design is amazing. The feel of the bag is amazing and just perfect for what I needed it for. The interior liner keeps your treasures safe and the strings tie nicely and come apart easily for easy open and close when you want your items. Added incentive is if you do get it dirty it is washable so I will have this for many years to come!!
