Dimitri Petrov Mid-Century Ink & Wash Drawing:

A charming ink and wash drawing by listed artist Dimitri Petrov (1919-1986) depicting a cellist. This is an unsigned piece that was given as a gift to the person I purchased it from. She was a 93 year old NY artist who was friends with Petrov during the 1950's & 60's.

Petrov was a very interesting man. Here is a little biographical information I was able to find:

-Born in Philadelphia, 1919, Dimitri Petrov spent much of his career based in that city, although in 1977, he moved to Mount Washington, Massachusetts. He was a Dada, Surrealist painter and also a print maker, and grew up in an anarchist colony in New Jersey. He was editor of a surrealist newspaper, "Instead" and co-publisher of "Letter Edged in Black".

The drawing is really well done and a great example of the whimsical illustration style so popular in mid-century America. A nice addition to any collection.

Measurements: 7 3/4 x 5 3/4" framed. Artwork alone is 5.25" x 4"

Condition: Good with a tear in the top right hand corner as shown.
