Hallmarked outside thimble 12(size) and S in Shield hallmark. Great top. Wonderful design. Slightly out of round. My opinion is that we should use these wonderful sterling thimbles for sewing and quilting. I have included how to determine your thimble size below.

Hallmark Info: This Thimble was made by Simons Bros. Co. of Philadelphia. They use the mark of an Old English S in a shield. All their sterling is marked with the Old English S in a shield, as they used a different mark for non-sterling items. Simons Bros. Co. is still in business today. They began making thimbles in 1839.

Thimble are usually worn on the middle finger or thumb.
All thimbles measure 5/8 inch tall, regardless of size; and they taper in a bit at the top. Since most thumbs are not round, you can squeeze your thimble a bit to make it slightly oval, rather than being perfectly round, for a better fit. Here is the circumference the thimbles measure at the base, their widest point:

•Size 7 -- 2 inch
•Size 8 -- 2-1/16 inch
•Size 9 -- 2-1/8 inch
•Size 10 -- 2-3/16 inch
•Size 11 -- 2-1/4 inch
•Size 12 -- 2-5/16 inch
•Size 13 -- 2-3/8 inch
Take a flexible (dressmakers) measuring tape and wrap it around your thumb between the base of the thumbnail and the first knuckle. Fit it snuggly and take that measurement. This will give you a thimble that fits comfortably.
