The Wish Fairy of the Sunshine and Shadow Forest is a 1919 publication of Altemus Company. Written by Alice Ross Colver, there are 10 full-page color illustrations by an uncredited artist.

This small (5.5 x 4.25) book tells several stories of animals getting a wish courtesy of the fairy who inhabits the Sunshine and Shadow Forest. The stories are charming and the art nouveau-style illustrations are whimsical and lovely. I believe that this is a first printing of the book, as no reprintings are noted. In 1921 this book became a part of the Wish Fairy series.

This little gem is beautiful!

The hard cover with a paste-down illustration was covered by a former owner at some point in time with a clear mylar-type covering that has a bit of shine. The lettering of the cover shows a lot of fading, the illustration of the fairy pouring color into the macaw is somewhat darkened, although still visible. There is rubbing around the edges and tips, with the upper tip on the front rubbed down to the board.

The front cover shows some loosening at the hinge, although it is still attached.. The interior pages are all attached and the binding is good. There are no inscriptions or tears beyond some very tiny closed tears. There is some foxing on pages and age-related tanning. The foxing is not severe and does not mar any of the beautiful illustrations.
