Whale Watching
4" sleeve, rod included.

This quilt was inspired by a brick artist. I saw a fabulous fireplace he designed on tv and immediatly thought "that could be a quilt!"

I began with drawing curves and then adding the "brick" segments. Next I made a large drawing and cut the curved pieces out and used paper foundation piecing to get each "brick" to be the correct shapes and angles. Next, I joined each curved strip until the quilt top was all put together. The quilting is simple. I followed the curves while couching silver emboridery thread.

I used mostly scrap fabrics that I can never throw away. Many are "fussy cut" so that many of the bricks feature some kind of image such as witches, cats, moons, flowers, clouds and other things. I showed this quilt at a couple of school presentations and the kids had a lot of fun playing a kind of I Spy.

This quilt looks good just about anywhere.
