In cooperation with Pitcher Puzzles, I am proud to present David Pitcher’s Mandala Dodecahedron.

From the designer:
I'm very happy to introduce the Mandala Dodecahedron! This puzzle is (to my knowledge) a world record holder for the largest number of axes in a twisty puzzle. It has a remarkable 120 independent axes of rotation! How's that for useless world records?
The puzzle is the next step up from my previous Mandala Cube. The cube was based on the disdyakis dodecahedron, while the Mandala Dodecahedron is based on the disdyakis triacontahedron, which has 120 sides. The slice pattern on the faces of the two puzzles is very similar, but of course the pattern has five-fold symmetry on the dodecahedron, and only four-fold on the cube.
This puzzle was quite a challenge to assemble, since at first I was using my normal 12mm screws. With an inside-out core and 120 springs pulling the axles inward, this proved to be too much force. When I finished snapping the last few pieces in (which was quite a challenge), I found that I had a very large brick on my hands. I fought with it for several days, using various tools to try to get it to start turning, all to no avail. I finally realized that the force from 120 springs was adding up to just too much pressure. I got some 16mm screws, disassembled the puzzle, put it back together, and voila! With the reduced pressure from the longer screws the puzzle turned beautifully. So if anyone does purchase a copy of the puzzle, be sure to use 16mm screws! Also, you'll need an extra long screwdriver due to the large size of the core.
Mandala Dodecahedron is relatively huge at about 2.125" per edge, or about 4.75" from face to opposite face. Even at this size, it is about as small as it could be made. It weighs in at 673.9 grams.
