Working Vintage Typewriter with Case

This classic black typewriter is a Smith Corona Clipper typewriter. Produced in 1946 this was the quintessential office typewriter for workers getting back to work at the end of World War II. This typewriter has a lot of stories to tell.

This Smith Corona typewriter has beautiful Speedline curves and a stylish glossy band around the base. It features the floating shift making typing lighter to the touch.

** A Little History About the Clipper Typewriter **

The Clipper was named after Pan Am’s Clippers which were outfitted for luxury air travel and long transoceanic flights in the 1940s. The Clipper typewriter was the luxury equivalent for the office worker wanting style and adventure.

These typewriters have an excellent reputation as the typewriter for a writer and were marketed in the 1940s as:
- the fastest portable in the world
- the smoothest writing portable ever built
- the most advanced portable design

Produced in 1946 in what had been the Lyman C. Smith's gun factory on South Clinton Street, Syracuse. The parts of a typewriter are surprisingly similar to those of a shotgun, so producing the typewriter at the gun factory was logical and easy after the war.

** Condition **

The body is in good condition with only some signs of wear and use on the paintwork. The Clipper Decal is also faded. This typewriter is still writing well and in great condition. The E key has been welded at some time in this typewriter's history. This classic Smith Corona is worth the investment for a writer. We have checked this typewriter fully and can confirm it is in a good working condition. It has been cleaned, oiled and a new ribbon has been installed. This typewriter is ready to use immediately.
