Victorian Black Leather Bag, Glass Sterling Bottles, Repousee Silverplate, Birmingham 1903, London 1826

Antique travel vanity case comes with 13 pieces of vanity items including some Sterling and silver plate. I believe the black leather case and glass bottles with sterling tops date to the early 1900s. There are 4 glass vanity items with matching Sterling lids which are all marked H&N Anchor symbol, Lion Symbol and small d. In researching hallmark it defines the Anchor (Birmingham), Lion (Sterling Silver) and the letter d as 1903. The tall glass cylinder with the round ball top is also Sterling but has different marks. The top of this one has a decorative diamond shape engraving and the mark is S.S.D over .E. D. in a shield (Drew & Sons – Samuel Summers Drew & Ernest Drew), Lion symbol, letter 1 (1826) and Leopard symbol (London).
There is 2 brushes, 1 comb and a mirror with repousee silver plate décor. The decoration on these pieces are similar but all different. The large brush has a gorgeous winged cherub décor with shells – this piece does have some pitted damage on the handle.
There is an additional 4 glass vanity containers with no marks which are probably silver plate. One tall cylinder bottle with a silver screw on cap monogrammed M h D.; 1 medium bottle with a screw on silver cap and glass perfume applicator under cap; 1 small shaker bottle and 1 tiny glass hobnail bottle with screw on lid.
The black leather case is lined with a emerald green satin fabric. There are 14 loops and 2 pockets on the inside. The top of the bag has a heavy duty secure metal clasp/lock and handle. The exterior of the case has some fading, scratches and scuffs consistent with usage and age (late 1800s or early 1900s). To open and close the case – press down on the top metal lock button. It measures 5.5 inches tall, 11 inches long and 8 inches wide.
