The 191 page 70s vintage Better Homes and Gardens Guide to Entertaining offers a view of what socializing was like during the 1960s and 1970s. Included are recipes and instructions for cocktails, party planning and more! This is the 1971 reprint that was first published in 1963. A sample of some hotessing advice reads :

"There is nothing more discomforting to a smoker than a room without an ashtray."

"A thoughtful hostess puts out filtered and non-filtered (cigarettes) in several convenient places."

There are samples of table settings with small ashtrays as part of the place setting and small containers of cigarettes at the ready for a guest's after dinner smoke!

My, how times have changed!

The book itself is in very good condition. The cover has a few minor signs of use. One corner is a little worn and there are two small dings on the outer cover edge. The inside pages are perfect (no tears or discoloring). There are bright colorful pictures and diagrams featuring various table settings for different occasions.
