This listing is for three botany textbooks:

1 – Elements of Botany by Joseph Y. Bergen, revised edition, copyright 1904 (published by Ginn & Company). Hardcover, 267 pages, about 5” x 7”. Glossary and index. I believe this book has had plenty of previous owners, and it is ex-library as noted by the bookplate on the inside cover. There are some notes and underlining occasionally, but they appear to be in pencil (except for maybe a few).

2 – Elements of Botany by Richard M. Holman and Wilfred W. Robbins, third edition, copyright 1940 (published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.). Hardcover, 392 pages, about 8.5” x 5.5”. Index. Owners name and address in pen on inside cover.

3 – Gray’s School and Field Book of Botany by Asa Gray. Consisting of “Lessons in Botany” (copyright 1887, 226 pages, glossary and index) and “Field, Forest, and Garden Botany (copyright 1868, 386 pages, index),” bound in one volume. This one has what I call “creative vandalism” on the front endsheet (see photo).

Please note that these books have all been quite used. They all have some notes and underlining, thankfully mostly in pencil. They do have that musty scent common with vintage books, and the endpapers have typically suffered some pretty good abuse. But they make up for any short-comings with good, strong spines, plentiful botanical line drawings, and beautifully nerdy scientific text. Whether for display or dissection for altered art or crafts, these books are a gem. Enjoy!
