"White Pumpkin Scarecrow" It's a starry night and she has been catching falling stars again! The border took me some time. I enjoy punching details and fussiness but it isn't everyone's favorite. Please feel free to change the color or style of the border. You can fill the 1"x 1" squares with solid fall colors, use variegated floss or fill it with polka dots! This sweet scarecrow will be happy with whatever you decide to do!

*****NUMBER OF SKEINS needed varies by artist: Some artists punch with 3 strands of floss, some punch with 6 strands. I use DMC, several of my customers use Valdani. Every tool brand is different and loop lengths vary. Artists style varies. Some punch with tight rows, others prefer a very open and airy, long-looped finish. I do not list exact skein count and always encourage customers to purchase extra due to all of these variables. NOTE: You will need more skeins of floss for the background. At least 15 skeins of black. Multiple skeins of the larger areas such as the pumpkin head, shirt and pants.

Punch needle is a nice excursion from my watercolor painting and design work.
I am inspired to translate my original paintings into fiber art patterns!
I originally planned to start a rug hooking hobby in 2011. When I went to purchase all of the tools and materials the shop owner could see the glazed look in my eyes. I knew I would enjoy it! I knew I could do it! However--- where would I store it all? My studio is small and already filled to the rafters with paints, fabrics, reference material... books, feathers, linens, shells, etc. (you know...) We walked around her charming shop and I saw a finished punch needle piece & fell head over heels for it! I was hooked! ;) The shop owner gathered the materials and sent me off. Two days later I was back at her door with a finished design. She asked me how I did it? I told her, "I simply painted with threads."

Your finished design can be framed or added to a decorative box. I trimmed my punch needle piece with a narrow wool strip, twisted and stitched with black floss.
It would be adorable made into a pillow. There are endless ideas & wonderful tutorials on the web that help us finish our punch needle treasures.
