The intriguing design of this Triple Truth Buddha carved bone cabochon sets it apart as both a small work of art and an enigma. In its own way, it's also an aide-mémoir for a mantra.

I had it crafted in Bali, Indonesia, as an embodiment of Buddha's beautiful "triple truth" quotation which you'll find below.

While it presented a challenge to the carver and threw the face recognition technology on my camera into a bit of a spin, adhering to the triple truth doctrine it personifies is by far the most difficult thing about it from my perspective.

It would make a stunning pendant or a cuff setting for those with bigger wrists than I. And you too may choose to wear it as a reminder to think, say and do good.

Please note that the piece you are purchasing is not the one in the photos. Because these are hand-carved, no two are identical, but the variations are slight.

A small speck in the vast Indonesian archipelago, Bali is an island like no other. While Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation state, Bali remains steadfastly Hindu.

But it's a hybrid form of Hinduism that is practised by 90 per cent of the island's 3 million inhabitants. Known as Agama Hindu Dharma, it has been influenced by elements of Buddhism, animism, and even Chinese Confucianism.

Buddhism has been synthesized into the Balinese culture, and is also a major feature of the artistic traditions of the Island of the Gods.

Wander through one of the lush tropical gardens of the hotels and restaurants that abound on this island paradise and you are likely to come across a beautiful Buddha carved out of the soft volcanic stone known as paras.

Buddha is also rendered in beautiful art, wood carvings, silver jewelry and textiles.
