This large light vessel is woven from unbarked sallow wickers with light and few dyed strips, with simple pattern around.
Perfect for keeping eggs, garlic, onions or dried fruits, because woven vessels provide good airflow around the content.
Dimensions: approximately 16.5cm (6.86") across the base, 7cm (2.76") in depth.
The 4th picture shows the left side of the plate to see the quality of this work.

This method of wicker-works is more time-consuming than others for its way of preparing materials and sewing the main un-barked wicker with sliced strip of barked wicker. Each of gradually rising curve is sewn to the previous curve, making different patterns like spirals, criss-cross design, wheat ears and chinese bends etc. Wickers for sewing are sliced by pulling the barked wicker through the hand-plane: small and very sharp bladed tool.

I collect all materials before forest bursts into leaf. I love these long walks around dunes and forest glades together with my four-legged companion. That is one of my favorite parts in this handcraft – to be so close to nature and to bring home that wonderful smell of wood and moss.
That’s amazing, that wickers collected from one bush in different season will differ in color. Wicker coloring also depends from how long material is soaked before weaving. Soaking into water is necessary to avoid main wicker breaking. Therefore that is slightly difficult to make two or more identical in color items.
To make my designs more expressive, in few works I use sliced strips which are dyed in the same manner as home textiles or wool is dyed - by natural substances like wood peel or floral decoction, though my woven is pure eco-friendly product. But in common I like to play with natural wood color brought by willow, shadberry or different type of sallow (there are more than 200 of sallow subtypes in Latvia).

My wicker-works are washable under running water, removing dirt with gentle moves using very soft brush. Do not scrub them! Juice stains could remain because wooden surface absorbs juice so you should avoid putting juicy berries or fruits directly onto the woven.
Often washing or keeping instantly in direct sun may cause slight changes in color.

Hope you will enjoy my creations to make your lifestyle more eco-natural!
