Item details

This orange scrub soap gets its color from pink Brazilian and yellow silt clay, its gentle scrub from pumpkin powder and Black Sea salt, and it's refreshing scent from orange essential oil.

This soap is handcrafted in small batches. Since these soaps are cut by hand there may be a variation in color and cut.

Ingredients: Saponified oils of olive, coconut, palm, & castor, cocoa butter, orange essential oil, pink Brazilian clay, yellow silt clay, pumpkin powder, and Black Sea salt

Our artisan cold-process soap is "just like the old days" when your grandmother might have saponified oils into soap using lye. The modern difference is the careful choice of natural ingredients and making smaller batches (usually 10 bars) with distinctive qualities rather than one large all-purpose batch stirred together in a big pot in the backyard!

What started Tied Up with String Soaps?
We became fed-up with not being able to read (or understand) the ingredients in our soap, one of the most important items we use daily. So we set out to change the world (or at least our little corner of it) by doing loads of research, loads of experimenting, and making loads of soap to determine which common oils, soft butters, and helpful additives (like oatmeal) work best in combinations to provide what we wanted from the beginning: a long-lasting, hard-working bar of handmade soap.

Why use natural ingredients?
We believe that it's vital to take care of our earth as well as our bodies. Our coconut oil is organic and our palm oil is certified with RSPO. We use many essential oils instead of chemicals, and all of our fragrance oils are phthalate free. Some additives, like micas and oxides, are sometimes nature-identical, which means they were created in a lab (to prevent collecting impurities) but are the exact chemical structure as the minerals found in the earth.

Why isn't my soap lathering like my store-bought soaps?
Many companies add lathering agents with no purpose other than to convince you the product is working by producing lather. Just because a soap doesn't lather much (sometimes referred to as a "creamy lather" as opposed to "bubbly lather") does not mean it's not working! Different oils in the soap have different jobs.

How long will artisan soaps last?
In theory, once no-additive lye soap is made it will last an indeterminable amount of time but we recommend using the product within 6 months, since we add scents and additives that do have a shelf-life.
