This is a Griswold cast iron Scotch bowl with a bale handle and handle ring on the front, circa late 1800's. Size #3, 10 1/4 x 4. Scotch bowls were used for making thick soups or stews. The markings are on the bottom "ERIE 781 PATD. MAR 10, 9 3" with maybe a "2" after the 9. There are no cracks, no repairs, no grease, no dirt, no grime, no chips and it sits flat. There is some pitting but the piece is almost 120 years old. This could be used for a variety of different things. The book value is $140.
