The Schumann China Factory was established by Carl Schumann in the late 1880's and was in business until 1994 in Arzberg Bavaria Germany. This pierced design oval serving dish can be dated by its bottom mark with a blue crown over a blue lion followed by Schumann and Bavaria written in cursive to the years between 1932 - 1944, the only years when this specific mark was used.

The design features an oval shape with squared handles and decorated with scalloped garlands of roses and wild flowers, pierced cut outs in the handles and around the sides, and a few more wild flowers scattered in the bottom. The rim and handles are trimmed in gold.

The bowl measures 10 3/4" long x 7" w x 2 1/2" tall, and is in excellent condition considering its at least 74 year age. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The only visible wear is subtle wear to the thin line of gilding around the rim.

This piece would make an excellent serving dish for dryer foods such as potatoes, whole fruit or breads, and would certainly make a lovely addition to an eclectic china setting or to a setting using a uniform complementary solid or floral pattern of dishware. It would also make a great addition to a fine china display collection as an example of luxuriously designed and executed sample of some of the finest old Bavarian china. Give as a gift to yourself or someone dear to you.
