This is a Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter in gray. Made in 1949, this machine has been reconditioned and is once again a working typewriter, ready to use.

This version of the Royal QDL was designed by noted American industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss in the late 1940s. It features "tombstone" keys that are designed to fit the fingertips of the average person, as well as clean, streamlined styling that makes it distinct from other typewriters that bear the Quiet De Luxe name. The Dreyfuss Quiet De Luxe was only produced for a few years and is a distinctly beautiful example of mid-century American design and craftsmanship.

As with all my typewriters, I have cleaned, and lubricated this vintage machine, and have pre-installed a new black/red ribbon. It is ready to go as soon as you get it home.

**COSMETIC CONDITION**
Cosmetically, this Royal Quiet De Luxe is typewriter is in excellent (9/10) condition. The all gray frame with chrome highlights is in excellent shape, with but a few minor blemishes here and there. The solid gray color scheme is gorgeous and solidly mid-century. With the sought-after "tombstone" keys that so many jewelry makers, and typewriter collectors, want, this is a wonderful piece to display, use, or add to a collection.

This Royal portable typewriter also comes with a carrying case that is in very good condition.

**MECHANICAL CONDITION**
Mechanically, this Royal typewriter is in excellent (9/10) shape. The platen has hardened some and does leave indents, but I didn't notice any cutouts as I typed. All the typewriter's functions work as they should, the machine types with a smooth, confident action, and it is ready to use right out of the case.

**INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING**
I do ship internationally, so please contact me for a quote if you are interested in any of my typewriters.

**RECOMMENDED BUYER**
I find the Dreyfus Quiet De Luxe to occupy a distinct corner in the typewriter world. The mid-century styling of this machine, though designed and made in the 40s, feels distinctively and emblematically 1950s. This is a mid-century masterpiece of function and design, and one that always draws looks of appreciation.

I believe this typewriter would be a good machine for a writer who wants a reliable, dependable, classic machine for decorative purposes, as well as occasional, regular, or heavy writing purposes. However, as with other typewriters made with heavier parts, this QDL may not be ideal if you're interested in heavy (multiple full pages per day) work and are new to manual typewriters, as it may lead to faster finger strain.

**MORE TYPEWRITERS / CUSTOM ORDERS**
I have a lot of typewriters, most of which I'm still in the process of refurbishing. If you want a specific machine, or don't see what you like here or in my shop, just let me know.
