SHIPPING DELAY. We are away on a buying trip; shipping will resume on October 28, 2019. Vintage cake breaker or slicer by Schneider-Toledo with yellow Bakelite handle from the mid 20th century.
Used to slice Angel Food cake, and other similar sponge cakes. Very retro and still as useful today as when first introduced in the 1930s. Marked "Schneider-Toledo Pat. No. 1,858,137." See history below.

APPROX. MEASUREMENTS:
11 in. long x 4 in. wide

CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear; suitable for gift giving.

HISTORY: Ca J. Schneider invented a multi-pronged cake breaker to slice the softest cakes and patented it in 1932. For two years, Pillsbury Flour Mills and Duncan Hines purchased hundreds of thousands of the cake breakers to distribute as premiums with their cake mixes. The order from the flour mill concerns kept the staff of 125 employees working around the clock. Mr. Schneider also invented sweet‐corn holders under the name Kob‐Knobs. He retired from the business in 1965.

A NOTE ABOUT VINTAGE: Everything we sell at AlegriaCollection is vintage, meaning that it's at least 20 years old, often much older. Consequently, most of our items show evidence of previous use and, in general, this is viewed as adding to the aged character of a piece. We make every effort to accurately describe any flaws and encourage you to carefully read the description, particularly when purchasing vintage as a gift.
