GLASS BEADS: Glass beads are usually categorized by the method used to manipulate the glass - wound beads, drawn beads, and molded beads. WOUND GLASS BEADS: Glass at a temperature high enough to make it workable, or is laid down or wound around a steel wire or mandrel coated in a clay slip. Manipulating it, while still hot, may further shape the wound bead. While still hot, or after re-heating, the surface of the bead may be decorated with fine rods of colored glass called stringers. These are a type of lampwork beads. DRAWN GLASS BEADS: The drawing of glass is also very ancient. Archeologists in India and elsewhere have found evidence of large-scale drawn-glass bead making. There are several methods for making drawn beads, but they all involve pulling a strand out of a gather of glass in such a way as to incorporate a bubble in the center of the strand to serve as the hole in the bead. PRESSED GLASS BEADS: These are made in the Czech Republic. Thick rods are heated to molten and fed into a complex apparatus that stamps the glass, including a needle that pierces a hole. The beads again are rolled in hot sand to remove flashing and soften seam lines. Glass beads are also manufactured or molded using rotary machine where molten glass is fed on the center of rotary mold and solid or hollow glass beads are formed.

CZECH CRYSTALS: What is now commonly called Czech Crystal has been known throughout history as Bohemian Glass. The history of Czech Crystal started when Bohemian glass-workers discovered potash combined with chalk created a clear colorless glass that was more stable than glass from Italy. This Czech glass could be cut with a wheel. Bohemia turned out expert craftsmen who artfully worked with crystal. Bohemian crystal became famous for its excellent cut and engraving. They became highly skilled at glass making, selling their wares in neighboring and distant countries.

CATSEYE: This is a manmade stone. It is composed of Ulexite, which is spun glass fibers fused together and then machine-cut to form the shapes. Crystal healers put Cat's Eye into the same category as many other chatoyant stones. Even though the stone is manmade, it contains the chemical properties of some types of natural stones, primarily Quartz, so it is said to posses the same metaphysical attributes. Cat's Eye brings serene happiness; it stimulates intuition and enhances awareness. Cat's Eye stones are considered to be lucky for gamblers. Cat's Eye stones are said to protect from the Evil Eye and bring good fortune. Fiber Optic Cat's Eye is the same material used in fiber optic telephone technology.
