Turritella fossil agate puff ovals, white tridacna shell rounds, TierraCast rhodium on pewter hammered rings, silver filled jump rings, sterling silver spacer beads, silver plate head pins, sterling silver beaded earring wires, clear ear guards

Dimensions

Length: 2.25 Inches

These unique fossil shell earrings feature turritella agate beads, tridacna white rounds, rhodium-on-pewter hoops, and sterling silver earring hooks. The turritella beads are agatized snail-shell fossils cut in the form of puffed ovals. Their mineralized remains represent creatures that lived over 40 million years ago, and each bead has its own individual pattern of white-to-tan shapes. The two focals of these earrings are therefore not identical, but they are perfect complements for each other. You can see this for yourself in my close-up photos of the beads, showing the front and back of each. The beads measure 19mm in length. (For more about turritella, please see my "About" section at the end of this listing.)

To enhance these wonderful agatized focals, I selected another treasure from the sea: tridacna shell beads (4mm). Processed from the shells of giant clams, tridacna is supposedly the whitest substance in the world and makes a nice match with the fossil beads, bringing out their lighter patterns. (Read more about tridacna at the end of this listing.) The hammered rhodium-on-pewter (by Tierracast, made in USA), suggest circlets of moving water, and I chose them to deepen the conceptual aspect and design of the earrings.

This special earthy elegant pair also includes:
• Sterling silver rondelle spacer beads (made in Italy)
• Silver-plated pins with my handcrafted spirals
• Sterling silver jump rings in two sizes
• Sterling silver earring wires with bead accents
• Clear ear guards, for better security on the ears

The length, including the earrring hooks, is 2.25 inches. Please see my photos for a measurement picture showing the earrings alongside a ruler and with a coin for relative size comparison.

A unique and thought-provoking example of wearable ancient history, these turritella fossil and tridacna earrings would make a fantastic gift for anyone who loves paleontology and geology or who simply finds fossils and the primeval world interesting and meaningful. They were designed and handmade beaded by me with great care, thought, and best wishes for their destined wearer. They come on a PrettyGonzo earrings card and gift-wrapped in a nice organza bag, all set for giving to someone special—perhaps yourself!

About Turritella Agate
This agate is a brown stone embedded with the white to tan fossilized shells of snails that lived over 40 million years ago. The name of this type of agate is a misnomer: Turritella was an ancient marine snail, but the fossils here are mineralized freshwater snails. A type of chalcedony, and thus a member of the quartz family, turritella agate is traditionally considered a stone of healing and wisdom. Some people see it as a talisman—a protective stone—and source of strength. Probably because it holds the vestiges of ancient life, Turritella also is considered a stone of survival. Today, most agate of this kind is mined in Wyoming.

About Tridacna Beads
These beads are made from the shell of a giant marine clam in the tridacna family of mollusks. Tridacna is considered the whitest substance on Earth and is very strong. Beads of this type of shell were popular in the ancient kingdoms of China. They are sometimes used in Tibetan Buddhist mala beads. Some people believe that tridacna confers a calming effect on its wearer, helping to balance out instability between the mind and body.

5 out of 5 stars (115)

I like to ship quickly, usually 1 or 2 days after payment unless it's a weekend or holiday. Please ensure your shipping address is current.

U.S. ORDERS: I ship USPS First Class w/Tracking. If you want to purchase insurance or upgrade, please contact me.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: After many years of shipping internationally, I am temporarily ceasing such shipments.

However, if you live outside the U.S. and would like to buy something, contact me. I will do what I can to help. Be aware that any tariffs, customs fees, and surcharges are paid by the buyer.

Note that shipping is now very costly for USPS First Class International, which is what I would normally use. Also, if you live in the EU, I do not have GDPR policies at the moment.
I sincerely want you to be happy with your purchase.

Returns are accepted if you contact me within 7 days after delivery to you. I expect to receive the item no later than 2 weeks after delivery. If this timeframe is problematic for you, contact me before buying. Also, I do allow extensions for special holidays such as Christmas and Valentine's Day, as some people buy early, me included!

For All Items: I will refund for the purchase price minus original shipping cost.

You are responsible for return shipping with tracking (U.S.). Items should be in their original condition, with the original wrapping and packing materials. Extra items, like jewelry cards, gift bags, boxes, freebies, should be included.
Non-receipt: I will do my very best to help you if items go astray. Tracking provides information on the item's routing to its destination, and I always ship directly from the post office rather than relying on postal pick-up. Again, please be sure that your shipping address is CURRENT.

Damage: I pack orders well to minimize any problem in this area. However, if your purchase arrives damaged, contact me immediately. I will do my very best to help.
I accept PayPal and Etsy Payments. Please be aware that even if you are not a member of PayPal, you can securely use it to pay for your purchase with a major credit card.

Payment must be made within 24 hours of purchase or the order will be cancelled.

To Rhode Islanders: Sorry to say, but by law I must apply 7% sales tax to your purchase and pass it on to "the governor."

Buyers from other states may also be charged state sales tax. In this case, your tax payment is determined and handled by Etsy, not me.
Yes, I am always happy to accept a custom order! Whether or not I require a deposit, full amount, or neither will depend on the nature of the order. I have done a number of such orders elsewhere with no deposit or purchase required, as I knew I could simply add those items to my inventory if the customer decided not to purchase. (Customers always did purchase them, though.) I always show photos of custom orders to the customer.
If you are buying a gift for someone and have used that person's address for shipping, please let me know at the time of ordering - I will be happy to include a complimentary notecard in which is written whatever message you would like to send.

Of course, I am always happy to send to that person's address. Just please make sure it is CURRENT. Thank you!
