Provenance:

Variscite is a hydrated aluminum phosphate mineral. It is a secondary mineral formed by direct deposition from phosphate-bearing water that has reacted with aluminum-rich rocks in a near-surface environment. It is a semi-precious stone that was first described in 1837 and named for the locality of Variscia which is the historical name of the Vogtland in Germany. Variscite has also been called Utahlite, Lucinite and Variquoise. . A joy to cut, this stone resembles the famous locality in Snowville, Utah. What a delight. It is actually from Nevada, Western U.S.A.
