Erwin Pottery FRENCH PEASANT Miniature Tea POT from Child's Set – #1591 – A sweet, colorful, almost impossible to find addition to an Erwin Pottery or Blue Ridge collection! Other than in Ms. Peterson's shop, this is the only one we've ever seen. From tabletop to tip top of pot with lid in place, the pot measures about 4.5 inches. Measurement from tip of pouring spout across pot to outside edge of handle is about 6.5 inches. Both pot and lid are free of chips, cracks, crazing. Images 4 and 6 show a slight roughness in the glaze on the side of the spout which is original to production. The teapot displays Erwin Pottery mark stamped in black ink on the bottom of the pot (images 4, 5, 7) and Mrs. Peterson’s initials, NP, handwritten within design area (image 1). We have other pieces from this set not yet listed. ASK US if you have an interest in items such as the cup and saucer shown in our last image (not included here). There is a direct connection between Blue Ridge and Negatha Peterson! She was an outstanding artist and long-time employee of Southern Potteries, Inc. After SPI closed its doors in the mid-1950’s, Mrs. Peterson purchased some original SPI molds and opened Erwin Pottery in Erwin, TN. Later, she obtained and used Cash Family Pottery molds. The French Peasant pattern seen here is Mrs. Peterson’s version of that Blue Ridge design and it mixes extremely well with the original SPI French Peasant pattern items. The initials NP (under glaze) is a guarantee that an item was produced before Mrs. Peterson retired and sold Erwin Pottery to new owners. Erwin Pottery items are becoming more and more popular with Blue Ridge and Cash Family Pottery collectors!
