Mementos no.4 is another drawing in this series that depicts every day objects....the things we use and surround ourselves with throughout our lives....things that carry the memories of our experience....the witnesses to the events of our unfolding days. These drawings are quite small and float in the middle of a vast, empty plane...symbolic of our own existence, so fleeting in the scheme of things. In this work, a single die and an alarm clock serve to frame a small bit of found text that reads: "I thought the streets were paved with gold, too." The juxtaposition of these items creates the possibility for many interpretations.

This piece is made on a full sheet of handmade paper...made from recycled prints by my husband, the printmaker in the family! The drawings are made with ink on teabag fragments and then adhered to Japanese paper with matte medium, which smears the ink (one of those happy accidents I discovered when it first happened) just enough to make it feel aged and of another time. I've accentuated the die and alarm clock with a bit of white acrylic. The text is from a children's book I often use in my studio for my found text pieces and scrolls and is also adhered with a teabag and matte medium. I've handstiched a border around the image area to give it more power against the flecked white of the paper.

The beautifully deckled handmade paper measures approximately 12" high x 15 1/2" wide. This work will come carefully packaged and ready for you to frame as desire. I would recommend floating the work in its entirety in a frame, rather than matting, so the entire page is part of the framed piece...please contact me for details if you'd like!

Thank you so much for browsing MissouriBendStudio...enjoy!
