MEANING: This Messianic Symbol contains a Christian Cross within a Star of David (a.k.a. Magen David). The Cross is one of the oldest Christian Symbols used today. The Star of David, also called the Shield of David or the Magen David, is a recognized symbol of Jewish identity and Judaism. Encircling a symbol/s puts the meaning of the/those symbol/s into a relationship...
The joining of the Jewish Star of David and the Christian Cross also lends this piece to be chosen by Jewish-Christian families to adorn their homes.
This symbol is embraced by Messianic Jews; those who follow the laws and teachings of Judaism while accepting the divine messianic status of Jesus. The organized church "Jews for Jesus" was founded in 1973.
SIZE: This listing includes size variations for our standard carving with a 10.5 inch diameter and the miniature of 5.5 inches. If you require different sizes, we can accommodate with limitations. The Standard size is as large as we can get from one board, anything from an 10.5inch diameter down to 6-inch would fall under the standard size. On the Miniature variation, the smallest we can go is based on a 4-inch diameter (any smaller and the little holes are too little).
THE CARVING:
Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings. Each carving begins as a 1 X 12-inch cedar board. While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders, etc.), we use no lasers, CNC machines, or computer-operated cutting machines. All work is done with our hands and eyes…
We cut the 2-dimensional blanks with scroll and jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with a jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools and disc grinders. The 80-grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks and gouges from the carving tools, and finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 and then 220 grit finishes the smoothing and polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain and the color.
