'Hula' is carved from a pretty piece of cherry burl that is full of 'eyes'. I started this carving by drawing a line around the burl areas and cutting away the less dramatic wood. After the carving was done the spoon looks to me like a Hula dance. The 'arms' are actually on differing planes and the 'hip' appears to be thrown out to the side.
The 'head'... or spoon bowl, is delicately cantilevered by a small attachment. At the end of the 'skirt' there is a live edge area of bark.
The spoon measures approximately 7 1/4" x 2" x 1".
