::Quercus alba::

A ring for protection and strength, combining recycled silver, brass white oak leaves, and a gleaming, faceted black spinel. I stamped the Latin name for a white oak, "Quercus alba," (all lowercase) along the shank (ring band). I like the dichotomy of "white" oaks, and "black" spinels both with similar meanings.** I gave the ring an antique look by oxidizing the silver and brushing off the high points for a matte finish. My wild rose hallmark is stamped on the outside of the band.

**Oak trees are figured quite prominently in lore as symbols of strength, protection, and fidelity in marriage; they are my favorite tree. Historically, spinels have often been mistaken for rubies (the Black Prince's Ruby in the Imperial State Crown of England is actually a spinel!) and some consumers are confused by the term thinking spinel is a lab created stone (it is not). Spinels measure an 8 on the Moh's scale. Black spinels are associated with the astrological sign of Sagittarius and in metaphysics offer protection.

♡ Ring would best fit a US size 7-8

♡ This gem is a natural/untreated stone and measures 14/10 mm. The overall design measures approx. 1.5"x1.5"
