"It is at night, especially when the moon is gibbous and waning, that I see the thing. I tried morphine; but the drug has given only transient surcease, and has drawn me into its clutches as a hopeless slave... I cannot think of the deep sea without shuddering at the nameless things that may at this very moment be crawling and floundering on its slimy bed, worshipping their ancient stone idols and carving their own detestable likenesses on submarine obelisks of water-soaked granite. I dream of a day when they may rise above the billows to drag down in their reeking talons the remnants of puny, war-exhausted mankind -- of a day when the land shall sink, and the dark ocean floor shall ascend amidst universal pandemonium."

"Dagon" H.P. Lovecraft

Dagon qui opes mare effert is a faithful reproduction of a page taken from a rare 15th century Latin translation of the dreaded Necronomicon. The German printing of the Necronomicon depicts him as a crowned tyrant slaughtering a whale not much smaller than himself. The text reads as, "Dagon who bears abundance out from the sea," an apt description given Lovecraft 's record of the cult of Dagon at Innsmouth.

This limited edition woodcut print was conceived, carved, and printed by Liv Rainey-Smith on a 9 x 12 inch woodblock, & 11 x 14 inch cream Rives BFK paper, with oil-based ink, and an etching press. No deities, forbidden tomes, or dreamers were harmed in the making of this art.

This is the most perfect bookmark. Love these woodcuts, and I just watched Color out of Space in which I noticed the artist's work on one of the characters' tshirts!!! Where can I get one?! 🖤
