From the designer:
I'm happy to introduce my puzzle, the Tetracopter 12XD. I made an upgrade to the core design for smoother functioning. It may also be my last in the HeliPrism series of puzzles (although every time I have thought that previously, I have found another interesting idea in the series...).
As you can tell from the name of the puzzle, it shares some properties with my previous Tetracopter 12 puzzle (including being the exact same size and shape). However, where Tetracopter 12 had all shallow cuts, intersecting the edges of the prism at the mid-points, the XD version has deep cuts (thus the "D") on the 90 degree capable axes. I put the "X" in the name as a placeholder, since the 120 degree capable axes have the same shallow cuts as the original version, and given the naming convention I've used, putting one "D" on the end of the name would imply that it only had the eight 120 degree axes, but that they were deeper cut (as with the Pentacopter 10D puzzle). Also similar to the original Tetracopter 12, I unbandaged the core of the puzzle. This means that any time it looks like one of the deep axes should be able to turn, it can turn. This makes the puzzle substantially harder, as the pairs of axles of the same color can now be separated from each other.
The puzzle turns very well, although care must be taken to align the pieces before turns. This is due to the sharp angles involved, which allow the pieces to slide around a bit more than is ideal. Other than that, the playability is excellent.
