Such an odd couple! They are both orphans that did not start out life together and both are ‘distressed’ in different ways. I got them as part of an estate auction lot several months ago.

The Cook pepper shaker is dressed in black with a white apron and bandanna. She has that 'sidelong glance' expression on her face along with a slightly sloppy reattachment of her head. She does have a 1" hairline crack that runs across the break. The Chef salt shaker is more petite and looks a bit forlorn… mostly due to his paint job, or lack, thereof. Other than the aforementioned break , there are no other chips on either one.

The Cook is 4-1/4" tall with a base measurement of 2-1/8" x 2-3/8" and a weight of 4 ounces. The Chef is 4” tall with a base measurement of 1-1/4” x 1-5/8” and a weight of 3 ounces. There are no marks to indicate where they were made, although many similar items have been marked as 'Japan'.

These shakers may be less than perfect, but both could be revived or re-purposed by an artist or crafts-person to be decorative items on their own or as an addition to a sculpture, assemblage or mosaic.
