Up Up and Away # 580

Who hasn't dreamed of going up in a hot air balloon or attending the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta? This image was inspired by my sister's wedding anniversary wish to do just that.

This dish is handmade, fused Italian sheet glass and millefiore. It measures just under 5" x 5". The base is opaque cornflower blue. I created a hot air balloon using 5 colors of millefiore flowers and glass enamel for the basket. Each 'flower' is a slice of glass cut from a handblown rod with a pretty design in its center. Millefiore is a a technique developed by glassmakers in Murano, Venice, Italy centuries ago, still practiced there. This small plate is one of a kind, made in my home studio. Fired once to set the design and a second time in a ceramic mold to give it raised corners and dimension.

You can lay the glass on its back or display it on edge in a lucite stand, shown in photos #1, 3, 4 and 8. The stand is available separately for $3--I SO recommend adding the stand to display it vertically. Just let me know you want one when you place your order. I'll send you a Paypal invoice and include it ( no additional shipping) with your millefiore dish or create a separate listing for you. Its seamless, strong and attractive, perfect for this dish.

Thanks for looking and feel free to ask questions. Your glass will be packed with care and shipped promptly. You will LOVE it!
