Item details

root wood

Height: 1 1/2 Inches; Width: 9 Inches

A beautiful bowl with lots of character made from a portion of root from an ash tree. The cross-section of the root at this point gives the bowl an elongated and squiggly shape, and the interior has the beautiful grain patterns and variations in color often found in root wood. This bowl has particularly interesting grain figure, with colors that range from creamy white to butter-yellow to reddish and brown. There's also a crack visible in the interior that dates back to when the tree fell over and uprooted itself. Meanwhile, the almost-black color and rough texture of the bark contrasts beautifully with the lighter colors and smooth shine of the interior. Wood with this sort of shape and grain figure can only be found in root wood, and a bowl that follows a wild organic shape like this can only be made by hand-carving.

9 inches in its longest dimension, about 5 inches at its widest, and about 1-1/2 inches high (23 x 13 x 3.5 cm). A nice size for holding candies, miscellaneous desk items or simply to enjoy as a beautiful decoration. The intricate grain and wide variety of colors of this piece invites long and peaceful contemplation as you turn it this way and that to view it from different angles.
