A limited edition print for fans of historic architecture, atmospheric ruins, Scotland - or all of the above - this view depicts a stone stairwell at Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots and a ruin since the mid-eighteenth century.

My creative process began in 2009 with a drawing on location at the palace. I spent several hours making a detailed pencil sketch in the stairwell. This was in January in Scotland, and the heat has been off at Linlithgow for several hundred years now - my fingers got quite cold! Back at home, I worked from my original pencil sketch to create an ink drawing. Then, this April, I scanned my drawing and had a polymer plate made from the digital file. From that plate I have personally printed a limited edition of 48 prints on a Vandercook letterpress.

This listing is for number 16 in the edition of 48 - the print pictured is the one you will receive.

Paper is 7 1/2" wide by 11" tall, with three cut edges and a deckle edge at the bottom. The actual image is approximately 4" wide by 7" tall. I used black oil based ink on Canson Edition antique white paper.

If you notice that the edges of the printed area aren't quite straight, you are absolutely correct. The outside border of the artwork is an accurate representation of the stone doorway through which I viewed the stair.

I will package the print ever so carefully, and ship it out via Priority Mail.
