A Designer's Critical Alphabet
This deck of cards was designed by me to introduce designers and design students to critical theory and to help them reflect on their design process.
Each card introduces a theory under that letter. Then the cards introduce a question or comment to help make a connection to the theory and design practice.
The deck is by no means a complete critical alphabet, but rather an introduction to concepts that a designer can reflect on while working. The deck should also be considered an invitation to create your own list of important critical theory concepts.
If there’s a new concept you’d like to see in the alphabet or you’d like to give feedback or make suggestions, please reach out via Etsy, LinkedIn, Twitter - @mamaazure or Instagram- @lesleyannnoel!
The cards measure 2.56" x 2.56".

Tried them out with our design team and went so well we’re doing it every week. Our activity this first time was to think about the role of public safety in design projects thru the lens of 3 cards. Did it on zoom and worked well. Looking forward to doing it in person.
These are beautiful, and I’m really excited to use them and grateful they exist! Extremely fast shipping. Highly recommend.
This was perfect. I used the cards with my Boston Architectural College Community Practice class. Thank you for this work!
Love this tool and the critical lenses it adds to design processes and conversations. I bought one for me and one for a design friend, who loved that this was a quick beta. Highly recommend for folks doing design in workplaces, social ventures, government, academia...... :)
