This is one of American Lenox China's styles of candy, snack, or nut dishes formed to resemble a shell of the iconic clam, scallop, or cockle shell variety. It can be dated by its gold backstamp to the years between 1953 and 1988, and it is part of a giftware line designed to serve as versatile gift items for brides, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Mothers Day, and more.

With its scalloped edges and ridged interior surfaces gently curving up on the sides it can hold and display a nice quantity of candy, nuts, or other snack tidbits. Oysters on the half shell might also be beautifully displayed and served in this dish. Or the shell dish can be an attractive china display item on a small easel on a shelf or console, or laying flat as a trinket dish to hold mail, jewelry or keys in a number of different rooms in the home.

The dimensions are approx. 7"w x 6 3/8 x "l 1 1/2"h The shell dish is in excellent vintage condition ready to enhance and help out at your home, or to give as a gift to another.
