Vintage Ladies Handkerchiefs - Hulda's Tears - Three Vintage Handkerchiefs

I was looking at a family photograph, and I noticed this photo of my great aunt Hulda as a young woman. She was born deaf, was unable to speak, sadly, no american sign language was available to her. In this photo, she appears to me to be confused. Maybe frustrated. Now, whenever our family went to visit, Hulda was smiling and sweet and hospitable. But she must have felt lonely, the problems with communication meant she would spend her entire life with just her immediate family. When I was young, Hulda lived with her sister, Esther. They were lovely, always happy to see us - and because we were three young children, probably happy to see us go, as well! These are the handkerchiefs I would choose to dry the tears of my dear Great Aunt Hulda.

First is a white linen, tightly woven, rolled edges, 12" square, with the monogram, "H", embroidered in pale gray.

Second, an off-white mid weight linen with tatted edges, 11.5 square, usually meant for a bride, Although my dear Aunt Hulda never married, I would not withhold the lovliest of hankies from her!

Third, 11" square, a more delicate tight woven fabric, the flowers printed on it are violet roses - with green leaves and sprinkles of yellow accent flowers. The edges of this hankie undulate in soft waves, the edges are overcast with lilac thread.

All hankies are sold "as is", the handkies are vintage. Not perfect. Sometimes the fabric is thin in spots. Threads might be loose around the edges. But I keep those with obvious problems for my personal stash. And I use them without guilt!!

These three lovely vintage handkerchiefs would be my choice for my great aunt. To dry Hulda's Tears.
