Signed and number reproductions of this favorite Dover Delaware festival held each May is featured in this lively folk-art painting of The Green. This print was released in 1992 - the same year Larry Bird retired for all you die-hard Celtics fans. This is noted in the story that comes with the print. As most people know folk art paintings usually have a humorous or offbeat quality.

I include a lot of humor (albeit subtle) in my pieces so you will have to look closely to find things. At my house there was a national day of mourning when Len Bias died (June 19, 1986), Larry Bird retired (August 18, 1992), and when Dale Earnhardt died (February 18, 2001). My husband took his sports seriously, and I know all these dates by heart. And I tried to include little references to my work as many people at shows thought he was the artist and I was his assistant.

This colorful print has been hung in an almost-pent-house apartment in NY/NY in a shiny black frame, looking almost like an abstact painting to the most primitive of wooden frames. If you need something colorful and cheery (and also something to commemorate Larry Bird's retirement as a basketball player - Father's Day is coming up you know), this reproduction is for you.

Approximate size of image is 16" x 19 1/2" and is pencil signed and numbered.

PS - The 1992 Old Dover Days was also the last time Governor Castle rode in the carriage as our Governor. He was married and won the House seat the same year. And to check your knowledge of Delaware history he lost last year in the primary to "which" candidate in his Senate bid. There's a lot of history in this little print for all you history buffs. And Delaware, the state that started this entire nation, is full of interesting historical footnotes.
