One of our original botanical formulas, this concentrated hair and scalp oil combines a rich blend of plant oils with an extensive selection of herbs and essential oils from around the world.

This formula began with my own interest in traditional botanical hair-care practices and the many ways herbs and plant oils have been incorporated into hair routines across different cultures.

After plenty of research, experimentation and trial and error, I developed my own combination featuring 26 botanicals and oils, including amla, rosemary, burdock root, stinging nettle, horsetail, marshmallow root, black tea, sage and more.

The result is a deeply herbaceous, handcrafted oil that can be incorporated into your regular scalp and hair-care routine, smoothed through the lengths of your hair, concentrated on dry-feeling ends, or used as a pre-shampoo oil treatment.

CHOOSE YOUR FORMULA

Two versions are available based upon your hair-care preferences.

Dry Hair Formula: Contains olive, castor, coconut and jojoba oils for a richer oil blend.

Normal Hair Formula: Contains olive, castor and jojoba oils without the additional coconut oil.

Because of the richer oils used in these formulas, this product is not recommended for low-porosity hair.

SUPER CONCENTRATED VS. REGULAR STRENGTH

Both strengths feature the same botanical ingredients.

Super Concentrated: Contains approximately twice the concentration of the botanical blend with less base oil.

Regular Strength: Contains a greater proportion of base oil for a less concentrated version of the formula.

HOW TO USE

Shake well before each use. Natural botanical material and sediment may settle between uses.

Apply a small amount to your fingertips and gently massage over the scalp using the pads of your fingers. A little goes a long way, so begin with a small amount rather than oversaturating the scalp or hair.

You may also smooth the oil through the lengths of your hair or concentrate it on dry-feeling ends as desired.

For a pre-shampoo oil treatment, distribute the product through the hair as desired and shampoo out during your regular wash routine.

A 4 oz bottle may last approximately 1–3 months depending upon the amount and frequency of use.

IMPORTANT HEAT INFORMATION

Because oils can become very hot, avoid excessive direct heat when this product is on the hair.

If heat styling is part of your routine, use appropriate heat-protection practices and avoid applying extremely hot styling tools directly to heavily oiled hair.

PRODUCT SPECS

Texture: Medium-viscosity oil.

Appearance: Medium to dark brown. Natural herbs and botanical material may be visible throughout the oil. Because this is a handcrafted botanical product, no two batches will look exactly alike.

Scent: Deeply herbaceous and earthy, with notes that may remind you of herbs, pepper and camphor. “Unscented” refers to the absence of added fragrance and does not mean that the product itself has no aroma. The herbs and essential oils have their own naturally strong scent.

Packaging: Available in your choice of a 2 oz clear plastic applicator bottle or 2 oz glass dropper bottle.

PATCH TEST

First-time users should patch test before regular use.

Apply a small amount to a limited area and monitor for 24 hours. Do not continue using the product if irritation or sensitivity occurs.

ADDITIONAL PRODUCT INFORMATION

This formula is best suited for darker hair. Some of the deeply colored botanicals may gradually tint very light, gray, white or blonde hair, so we do not recommend this formula for very light-colored hair.

Botanical oils may permanently stain certain fabrics. Use care around clothing, bedding, upholstery and other porous materials.

Store tightly closed in a cool, dark location away from excessive heat and direct sunlight.

WHY DOES IT COST MORE THAN A BASIC HAIR OIL?

This isn’t a simple one or two-ingredient oil.

Each bottle contains an extensive assortment of botanicals and plant oils, including ingredients that can be costly to source. The formula is handcrafted using our own proprietary recipe, and the preparation process can take up to seven days.

You’re getting a small-batch botanical formula that took considerable time and experimentation to develop.

FAQ

Q: Will you sell the recipe so I can make it myself?

A: Nope! This one stays in the family. Our botanical blend is our own proprietary formula and isn’t available for sale.

Q: Does this formula contain mineral oil?

A: No. There is no mineral oil in this formula.

Q: Why are there herbs or particles inside my bottle?

A: That’s normal. This product is made with real botanical ingredients, so some botanical material or natural sediment may be visible. Appearance can also vary somewhat between batches. Shake well before each use.

Q: Which formula should I choose?

A: The Dry Hair Formula contains coconut oil in addition to olive, castor and jojoba oils, giving it a richer oil blend. The Normal Hair Formula does not contain coconut oil. Please compare the complete ingredient lists and choose according to your own hair-care preferences.

Each bottle contains 2 fluid ounces. Bottles are filled according to fluid volume and may not appear physically filled to the very top.
