Item details

A small cylindrical box, suitable for holding toothpicks, small candies, matches, or whatever little doodads you like. Made from the stump of an elm tree sapling that was cut down by beavers. The lid presses into place and fits snuggly, so you can pick it up by the lid. The lid is also keyed to the lower portion so you can only put it on the right way around, with the bark matching. As you can see, the beaver chewed away part of the side of this little log as well as cutting through it at the top (beavers gonna beav). Aside from this, the bark is intact and nicely colored. The piece is finished with polyurethane and lacquer.

In case you want to use this little box to hold wooden matches, I'll include a round piece of peel-and-stick match striking paper. This can be stuck onto the bottom of the box to light either safety or strike-anywhere matches.

The outer dimensions are 5-1/4 inches (13.5 cm) tall and about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. The inside dimensions are 3 inches (7.5 cm) deep and 1-1/2 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter.

This box will be a charming and unique addition to any setting, no matter what use you put it to. It would be ideal for holding fireplace matches in a vacation cabin, or as a sweet reminder of the natural world for holding paperclips at an office desk.
