Height: 2 Inches; Width: 5 Inches

I can only take partial credit for this little bowl. As you can see, the outside has been beautifully carved and sculpted by my industrious coworkers, the beavers. The bowl is rather asymmetrical, following both the shape of the tree trunk and the whims of the beaver who cut the tree down. You can also see that a little bit of the tree's bark remains along one side of the rim. Inside the bowl some faint hairline cracks are visible; these were caused by the stress on the wood when the tree was felled.

The outside of this bowl is coated with polyurethane and the inside finished with food safe pure tung oil. I believe the wood is ash.

Personally, I find endless delight and fascination in the grooved and facetted contours of these beaver-cut tree stumps. It's a wonderful example of how objects from nature can be not only beautiful, but imbued with artistry. The beavers certainly had no intention of making something creative and beautiful when they cut down this tree, but nonetheless they accomplished exactly that.

About 5 inches (12.5 cm) in its widest dimension across the top and 2-1/8 inches (5.5 cm) high. It would be great for holding small candies, nuts or other snacks, for miscellaneous items on a desk or elsewhere, or used purely as decoration.
