The fate of the living is that one day we will all die. Acceptance means looking death in the face with courageous intent, hoping that, when the time comes, we will die with honor and without regrets.

I meditated on these thoughts while assembling this artwork. This framed assemblage includes brass findings I purchased at a wonderful shop in San Francisco, run by beautiful and mysterious women who looked like gothic faeries. I don’t know whether the shop still exists, but the memory of those women is also embedded in the work.

The brass findings include a tiny Art Nouveau–style frame enclosing a white metal skull. The skull is so beautifully crafted that it looks as though it belongs to a tiny human head. Below it is a brass finding of a woman with a garland of stars in her hair, seemingly dreaming as she contemplates death.

All the elements are attached to a piece of wood, cut to fit the frame and painted black with acrylic paint. Brass five-pointed stars decorate the frame, symbolizing the otherworldliness of death.

Because this artwork incorporates upcycled materials, the finished piece has small scratches, imperfections, and signs of wear. These “signs of time” enhance its connection to the past and reflect an ecological consciousness.

This listing is for an original work of art.

Frame size: approximately 5.25 × 7.25 inches.

A stamped certificate of authenticity on beautiful cream-colored Crane stationery accompanies the artwork. All Hoshi Hana artwork is carefully tracked with a studio serial number and signed to verify authenticity.

Care has been taken to represent the artwork as accurately as possible, but colors may vary depending on your screen and display settings.

I do not accept returns or exchanges. Please contact me through Etsy if you have any issues with your order.

Please review my shop policies for more information. Questions about the artwork are welcome through my Etsy shop’s conversation/contact link.
