I sketched this lovely marsh wren and nest at our little local museum of natural history. All wrens are pretty amazing, saucy birds, and the nest of this one is particularly stunning. Sadly the wetland habitat around the world is becoming a scarce commodity.

This etching is a wonderful example of the use of aquatint, and you can see how many different times I immersed the plate into the acid to create the different tonal areas.
It looks stunning framed “floating” (showing the entire piece of paper) in a 12 x 16 inch frame.

This etching is printed in black ink on archival Somerset warm white paper, and is part of a limited edition of 30. It makes a great gift for natural history and bird buffs.
