Up Cycled Necklace Vintage MOP Belt Buckle Dangles on Black Chain

Mother of pearl belt buckles, repurposed, on a necklace. All suspended from a 22" (55cm) black chain with a lobster claw clasp. It's a stunning combination of the lustrous white mother of pearl with the contrast of the black chain. Definitely a "statement" piece of jewelry.

This material has been used for centuries for decorative purposes. It was widely used to fashion buckles and buttons before the advent of plastics. It comes from the seas, the inside lining of many bivalves. It is the same material from which pearls are formed.

These belt buckles are just too beautiful to become a castoff because they are not useful any longer. Another rescue operation for me.

Their brilliance and iridescence and their sculptural quality make them a perfect fashion accessory.

It catches light in a most fetching way with its iridescence. Wear it with anything - dressed up or down.
