French butter dish or butter keeper both equal spreadable butter all the time. This is an old world concept that lost it's place when the refrigerator came to be. So we have forgotten that butter does not need to be refrigerated if it's in an air tight jar. Why suffer with torn bread or pancakes with one amazingly butter loaded spot, when you can have spreadable butter all the time.

Butter is put in the lid of the jar. Water is put in the base of the jar. When the lid is placed in the jar, the water rises up and creates an air tight seal to keep your butter fresh. It can sit waiting to serve you on the counter. Now go get the bread and toast it!

The butter dish is wheel thrown and slipped with porcelain. I use a homemade stamp to decorate it. The glaze is a satin heavenly lavender, yellow where the slip is thin and lavender where the slip is thick. The stamped areas are raw clay. The keeper measures about: 3.8"h, 4"d and will hold 6 oz of butter - in the lid. Add about an 3/4" of water in the jar.
