This mask design is constructed from-
one vintage korean war era U.S. Navy cold weather mask, a strip of fake leopard print fur, spike studs, large and small brass eyelets, woodstain, paint and varnish.

The design was based around the idea of what a post apocalyptic hun would look like
(Huns were lightly armoured, highly mobile but poor, hungry, small bands of equestrians, prone to raiding).

With this genre in mind i decided to use bastardised army gear, altered with studs, furs or leather....

The mask is vintage, has been used and probably seen action in its time. the lower strap has been removed (not by me) as is common with this specific design of cold weather mask, as the designer made the lower strap too short (and too tight fitting) for everyone with a neck. That being said, with just the top strap and central one it still grips the head well (it wont fall off if you use it for driving old converted vw buggies around in the wasteland), the strap is also adjustable. The poppers are all still there and still work, the mouth flap can be opened, same with the nose flap. The mask still bears the U.S. NAVY stamp on the reverse side of the neck flap.

To begin with the mask has been completely covered in grey primer. Then a coat or two of "Labrador Sands" (very post apocalypse, no?) has been applied, this then highlighted with "Orangery" as i wanted an orange colour for the leopard print design.

The leopard prints are mostly painted on in brown and black oil based paint, in various sizes. One strip of fake leopard print fur has been sewn under the right eye socket with strong, waxed embroidery thread (gives the mask an endearing fleabitten look) then the whole mask recived several layers of orange woodstain, giving it a blotchy, corroded and grotesque finish. This was all then sealed onto the mask (safe from weathering effects of sandstorms and acid rain) by a thick coat of ronseal clear matte varnish. (Does exactly what it says on the tin!)

The left side of the mask has recieved customisation by the use of 8 large brass eyelets, and 6 small brass eyelets. Three screw in spikes have been added to the left side of the nasal flap, and 2 spikes to either side of the chin.

The mask is very lightweight (in keeping with the theme) and feels lightly armoured due to the brass eyelets, the tough, paint covered outer face, and all the felt padding on the inside.

Designed for practical use, this mask would suit a nomad biker or dune buggy marauder who needs facial protection from the elements, and wants to look wild and leopard-like!
Goggles can easily be worn over the top, and the mask is fully adjustable!
