Candlewick is the name for this very popular, and still popular style American dish design from the middle of the 20th century. It has a charm all it's own that fits in anywhere with any other kind of dishware, and yet stands out as its own charming thing. It is similar to the "boopie" design from the same era, but, as I have been told, the difference is that the balls on the edge of a boogie dish are right next to one another without a space between. Both are adorable.

Another feature of this dish that makes it very versatile is the small profile of its measurements. It is only 7 1/4" long x 3 7/8" wide so it will fit easily on a crowded table or in a crowded refrigerator, but yet still holds a full stick of butter.

This dish is in beautiful condition with little evidence of prior use. It's a great opportunity to go green with the renewal of an older object that brings a great deal of good vintage design tradition as well as considerable charm to your tableware and entertaining. It also makes a unique gift at holiday time with a fun tradition to instigate warm conversation about days past.

UPDATE - With a little more research I believe this dish was initially meant as the underplate for a small candlewick creamer and sugar, however, since it seems to have lost its cargo I stand by my original thought that it is an ideal butter dish. & it's so pretty... Rescue, renew, repurpose, reuse, but most of all ENJOY!!!
