Country rustic birdhouse of reclaimed Civil War-era barn wood.

There was a nearby barn in the Chicago suburbs, built shortly after the Civil War, that workers were tearing down. So we salvaged some of its wood to create this birdhouse. The weathered white paint is original, giving the bird house a rough, natural, primitive look.

Green wooden basket filled with tiny apples. Green painted hand-carved wooden evergreen tree with berry decoration. Real cedar shingled roof covered with sprinkles of "snow," artificial greenery and pine cones. Roughly 9 x 10 inches. About 9 inches high. For the type of bird most likely to nest in here, there is plenty of room to enter the house behind those branches. Also, you don't have to worry about the birds trying to eat the apples or berries, because they know the difference between these and the real thing. Two convenient hooks on top let you hang this on a tree. But the hooks are very easy to remove if you don't want to use them. Made to specifications that enhance the lives of real birds and their needs. And the birdhouses we have made that adorn our own yard do, indeed, have birds nesting in them seasonally. But if you'd rather keep this indoors, it makes a great decoration, too. Depending on where you live, we may be paying a substantial part of your shipping. Frequently asked questions about LifesAnExpedition

Sorry. We do not negotiate prices, change listings, add photos or break up destashes for you. We only ship in the time frame and method stated, but if you order a lot of small merchandise that would ordinarily be shipped first class, you may be upgraded to USPS Priority Mail.
We use 1st Class mail for packages under 13 oz--and that's most of our hand knit or sewn goods; allow a week to arrive. We use Priority Mail for packages over 13 oz; allow 2-3 days to arrive. Books ship Media Mail; allow 1-2 weeks to arrive. These are valid estimates for 11 months of the year, except during holidays and severe weather. BUT IN DECEMBER, DELIVERIES SLOW DOWN ENORMOUSLY. So if you need your order fast, use this Priority upgrade: In any case, you will always get a tracking # from us. It's next to your Life's an Expedition payment in your Paypal account.
Don't panic. The nature of the USPS is to charge more to ship the first pound and gradually less for each additional pound, depending on how far you are from Chicago. So, yes, the cost of shipping gets higher the more single and double skeins of yarn you put in your shopping cart. Generally, if you buy fewer than 16 skeins, there are rebates built in to the price. When you order 16-24 single or double skeins from various listings, we can usually ship the whole shebang for a mere $13.99 within the United States; we calculate and process the rebate AFTER you pay, at the time that we pack your order. (Those "destash yarn lot" listings of 10+ skeins already have discounted shipping. Ditto for yarn cones.)
If you order a number of things, you could get a rebate, depending on what you order, how big the product is, how much the package weighs, whether we offered shipping rates below our actual cost to mail it to you, what your zip code is, how far you are from Chicago, how fragile the product is, how much we have to pay for protective packaging, whether or not it fits in a flat rate box, whether we can put one of your purchases into the same box as something else you ordered without risk of breakage, etc. Lots of variables, eh? That's why we cannot predict combined shipping fees in advance.
Since the US Postal Service made some changes we cannot live with, we decided to suspend international shipping...probably permanently. If we ever do reinstate it, we will include Canada, Australia and some countries in Europe for about half of our listings. International buyers are responsible for any and all customs fees or import taxes. Life's an Expedition is not responsible for these fees or any delays due to customs. We will send you a tracking number, but please realize that your order will likely take weeks to arrive unless the package weighs over 4 lbs. Rebates, as described in FAQs, apply to your order if applicable.
Only on clothing, as per instructions found in the clothing listings. Please follow those instructions to the letter.
We do not permit returns on any listing that doesn't specifically address the issue of returns because we take the time to give accurate, detailed descriptions and measurements with large photos you can zoom in on. But if WE make a mistake with your order or in the listing, we promise to make it right with you. Please contact us in a POLITELY worded email via Etsy (not the yahoo account) within a few days of delivery WITHOUT leaving adverse feedback. We will get it sorted out. Let's hope you never have to read this section of our policy page. We heart Etsy in a giant way and love making things that we hope you will love, too. Our very high feedback rating demonstrates that We Play Well With Others.
We don't offer wholesale arrangements, but we often have sale or bulk merchandise that you are welcome to resell in a bricks and mortar shop. Not on Etsy.
Everyone receives a tracking number without having to ask for one and Paypal sent you an email regarding this. But the best way to TRACK YOUR PACKAGE is by logging into your Paypal account to look at your payment to Life's an Expedition. There is a column for shipping status. Click on TRACK. (If you are outside the United States and your package is small, we send you a tracking number via Etsy convo; however, as of August 2016, we had to suspend international shipping and probably won't be reinstating it. It has nothing to do with you or your country. It has to do with the US Postal Service. Sorry.)
Very unlikely. USPS tracking information is not flawless. Your package could be within a day of reaching you without any indications of this in the tracking data. However, if the tracking # shows delivery, yet you have not seen the package, ask other residents at your address if they brought in the mail, look in the shrubs around the mailbox and front door, etc. If those avenues don't pan out, contact your post office and give them the tracking number we gave you. Our 12+ years of experience have taught us that when a tracking number shows arrival, it usually means the package DID arrive but someone in the household or office forgot to tell you.
