Handmade

This real Coyote skull is from New England. This skull measures about 8 inches in length. The bone is of exceptional quality, solid and without aged pitting. The skull is from a coyote who died of accidental causes. This coyote was not trapped or shot. The skull was beetle cleaned.

I painted this coyote skull in respect of the ancient Scandinavian cultures and my ancestors.

The skull is painted in the color dark purple, symbolizing the energy of the royal vastness of existence. Upon the purple skull is painted the rune Thurs both forward and backward symbolizing the eternal creating force of movement both forward and backward. Along the rear top of the skull on both sides is the constellation Canis Major in yellow, since each star we see is a sun in its own right. 6 silver dots centered with sky blue run along both sides representing the 12 moons. In the center forehead is the 13th dot for the 13th moon with 4 silver directional marks connecting all of the earth. Sliver streaks the top showing the two pathways through time; physical and non-physical. The sky blue streaks represent the protective sky above us, the protector of all life upon this planet – the atmosphere. Red dots tip the teeth showing the creative forces of physical existence at work. The canines are in silver, a strong protection of spirit. In runes the name Sirius is spelled out along the left jaw and on the right jawline is spelled coyote.

The teeth remain their original color of white for sinking our teeth into the purity of physical experience.

I use acrylic paint and clear acrylic varnish over top to seal and protect the paint and bone from the elements.
The top skull and lower jaw are glued together for ease of handling and displaying.
This skull also comes with a wooden tripod for display purposes.

As with everything I create, each piece contains dynamic meaning and purpose. Nothing is just for show or face value.
