This beautiful set contains one center cup and eight outer cups that form a flower pattern when together. They sit on a beautifully carved base, which has been carved to hold the cups. The base sits on a footed bottom piece, so that you can spin the whole thing(see pics). The wood has been stained and is a lovely golden brown and a darker brown. The cups have pineapples carved into them and the base has a pretty pineapple and it's leaves. It measures approx. 14 1/2" across and 4" tall. The center cup measures approx 4 1/4" across, the outer cups measure about 5 1/4" long by 3 1/2" across and 2" high. It is in very good condition, there are a couple of scratches on the bottom and some slight wear from turning, but other than that it looks terrific (see pics). I was told this was bought about 30 years ago in the carribean in Martinique and was hand crafted by the locals, so I doubt there are a lot of these around. I believe the pineapples depicted on this are the black pineapple, which is smaller and sweeter than the pineapples we see in the U.S. I wish I knew the type of wood, but it has a very lovely grain to it, possibly it's something native to the area. This would be perfect for summer cook outs in the back yard to hold nuts, chips, pretzels or even candies!!
